About
Paradise Community Gardens was established through the vision of a founding community member to reclaim waste and neglected areas of Paradise Housing Estate and bring them back to life with micro-habitats for pollinators, thus both improving derelict or abandoned areas on the estate as well as having a real purpose in helping local wildlife.
These areas are small but they will still provide a valuable service and over time it is hoped to develop other under-used areas for the benefit of residents and wildlife.
Friends of Paradise members Dimi and James helped to create our stumpery in 2015, and in 2016 we will be adding a bumblebee flower border with Borage, Phacelia and Essex Broad Red Clover.
We are doing well with our woodland area and have completed plantings around the wildlife pond. We hope to create some strawberry and tomato hanging baskets with the children. Watch this space!

Supported by Knightstone Housing Association
With the support and a generous area development grant from Knightstone, what were previously unsightly areas are now bursting into life with wild flowers and various herbs, plants and shrubs that are known to be attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinators.
It is early days yet.....2016 saw a more flourishing garden as plants established themselves and the flowerbeds grow into themselves more fully.

Our Vision
Our aim is to promote a community spirit through improving areas of waste or abandoned ground around the Paradise Housing Estate by planting a wide variety of both wild and cultivated flowers and plants that are known to be favourites for butterflies, bees and other pollinators.
One of our longer term goals has just been realised - we have re-planted a small orchard with one or two crab apples trees on the estate, as a nod to the fact that our houses were built on land where once an apple orchard blossomed. Thanks to Paul, we now have two newly planted apple trees in Emmy's front garden! It's all happening in Paradise. How fab is that!
Anyone is welcome in Paradise! Whether you would just like to be kept up to date with our activities or you have an hour to spare or something to donate or would like a more regular input - please get in touch, you are always welcome.
