Today saw us completing Stage 1 of our Hedgehog Hibernation Hotel, creating a sleeping habitat for our local hedgehogs to help them through the winter.
We raised the box off the ground to prevent damp and improve air circulation. We added a little ramp to the entrance corridor to prevent badgers and other critters nosying on in. We then added pet sawdust because hedgehogs have very sensitive little feet and apparently appreciate the softness of sawdust!
We then covered the whole box with a mound of earth and sprinkled wild woodland flower seeds over the top. This Wildlife Habitat area should look pretty amazing come next Spring when all the flowers and seeds that we have planted there start to bloom.
